On August 17th, traffic on 48th Street shifted to the new east lanes between R and O Street to begin construction on the west side. (Traffic was already shifted to the east lanes from O to M Street to allow construction of the west half of the O Street intersection.)
The 48th Street drives to Target, Super Saver, Perkins, and the Eastview Shopping Center closed at this time. Drivers can use O Street, R Street, or 46th Street to reach businesses in this area. Completion of 48th Street is anticipated for November 2006. Updated 8/17/06

About the Project
Home to a wide range of retail shops and businesses, O Street has historically been one of Lincoln’s busiest streets for both residents and visitors. Recent roadway improvements east of 52nd Street have eased some of the traffic congestion along O Street. The section from 46th to 52nd is the next area scheduled for improvements.O Street from 46th Street to 52nd Street is currently a four-lane arterial with left turn lanes at major intersections. The City of Lincoln plans to develop this portion to six through lanes plus turn lanes at key intersections. The goal of the project is to provide increased safety and capacity, as well as overall operations improvements.
To improve efficiency and safety of the 48th and O intersection, improvements to 48th Street from M to R are also a part of this project. Water main improvements are included in this project along O Street from 33rd to 48th and along 48th Street from M to O.
