Roadway Closure: October 2, 9 p.m. -- 6 a.m.Roadway closures are scheduled for Monday night, October 2, beginning at 9:00 p.m on 48th Street and along R Street to replace the asphalt surfacing at the intersection of 48th and R Street. 48th Street will be closed to through traffic between Vine Street and O Street and R Street will be closed to through traffic between 46th and 52nd Streets. Both streets will reopen to traffic on Tuesday, October 3, at 6:00 a.m. Local access will be maintained to businesses during the closure.
During this same time, asphalt surfacing repair work will be completed at the east half of the 48th and M Street intersection. Minor disruptions to traffic may be required at this location in order to complete this work.
Traffic Shift: October 6, 9 a.m.
A traffic shift on 48th Street is scheduled for Friday, October 6th at 9:00 a.m. The time and date of this traffic shift is dependent upon weather and construction progress. At this time the outside lanes at the west half of 48th Street will be opened to southbound traffic while northbound traffic remains on the east half of 48th Street.
During this time, construction will occur on the remaining center left turn lanes as well as median construction on 48th Street north of the R Street intersection. Right-in and right-out access will be provided to businesses along both sides of 48th Street during this time. However, left turns will not be permitted at the new Target/Super Saver drive until construction work on all the center left turn lanes is complete and the traffic signal is operational.

Tomorrow, traffic on 48th Street shifted to the new east lanes between R and O Street to begin construction on the west side. (Traffic was already shifted to the east lanes from O to M Street to allow construction of the west half of the O Street intersection.)

O Street, from 44th to 52nd Street, will re-open on Wednesday, August 16. The time and date of the O Street opening is dependent upon weather and construction progress.Also on August 16th, traffic on 48th Street is scheduled to shift to the new east lanes between R and O Street to begin construction on the west side. (Traffic has already shifted to the east lanes from O to M Street to allow construction of the west half of the O Street intersection.)
The 48th Street drives to Target, Super Saver, Perkins, and the Eastview Shopping Center will close at this time. Drivers can use O Street, R Street, or 46th Street to reach businesses in this area. Completion of 48th Street is anticipated for November 2006.

A traffic shift for 48th Street is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, at 9 a.m. The time and date of this closure is dependent upon weather and construction progress.North and Southbound 48th Street traffic will shift to the east side of the roadway from Advanced Auto south. Traffic north of Advanced Auto will remain on the west side of the roadway.
As a result of this shift, driveways between M Street and the PetCo drive, on the west side of 48th Street, will close with temporary driveway access provided to the dentist's office. The 48th Street drive between Target and SuperSaver will remain open.

A traffic shift on 48th Street is planned for the week of July 24th. Traffic will shift from the west lanes to the east lanes, and will remain open to both northbound and southbound traffic.7/7/06

O STREET WATER MAIN -- O Street is scheduled to close between 33rd and 40th Street on Tuesday, June 27th, at 9 p.m. and will re-open at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, June 28th, to complete water main work. This time and date of this closure is dependent upon weather and construction progress.Eastbound traffic will be detoured south on 33rd Street to Randolph and then north on 40th to return to O Street. Westbound traffic will be detoured south on 40th Street to Randolph and then north on 33rd to return to O Street. The 33rd and O Street intersection will be opened to the south, but closed to the north. Northbound traffic on 33rd Street will be detoured west on O Street to 27th Street.

WORK ACCOMPLISHED -- The project construction is progressing very well with the majority of the storm sewer and private utility relocation work completed. This has allowed the contractor to proceed with construction of the new pavement and retaining wall structures.ROADWAY - The majority of the mainline paving along O Street between 48th Street and 52nd Street was completed and the contractor is currently working on mainline paving on O Street between 45th Street and 48th Street. It is anticipated that the majority of the paving on O Street between 45th Street and 48th Street will be completed by June 16th.
WATER MAIN - The water main construction between 37th Street and 48th Street is nearly complete and the new main has been placed in service between 40th Street and 48th Street. The contractor is currently connecting the water services for the adjacent properties up to the new main between 37th Street and 38th Street.
It should be noted that the contractor was able to complete the water main work in this area without having to close 40th Street at O Street as originally anticipated. It is anticipated that the water main work between 33rd Street and 44th Street will be completed by June 30th.
Upcoming Work/Changes in Traffic
ROADWAY - The contractor has started driveway reconstruction work along O Street between 48th and 52nd Streets and will continue with this work along O Street as retaining wall and pavement construction is completed. The contractor is scheduled to begin pavement construction along the east side of 48th Street the week of June 12th.
WATER MAIN - The contractor will shift eastbound traffic back to the south side of O Street between 37th Street and 44th Street in the near future to allow the Contractor to reconstruct the raised medians along this segment of the roadway. The traffic shift is scheduled for June 12th. Once eastbound traffic is shifted back to the south side of the roadway, drive access to businesses along the south side of O Street will be limited to right in and right out movements similar to the pre-construction conditions.
The contractor will begin water main work at the southeast corner of the 33rd and O Street intersection on June 9th. Northbound through traffic on 33rd Street will be maintained during this time, however the northbound to westbound left turn movement will be restricted. This work is anticipated to take approximately 14 days. Drivers who utilize the northbound to westbound left turn movement should seek alternate routes during this time period.
Following completion of the water main work at the southeast corner of 33rd and O Street, the existing water main will be abandoned at 33rd Street. This will require a shift to the south side for both eastbound and westbound traffic on O Street between 32nd Street and 35th Street along with total closure on 33rd Street between O Street and P Street. Once the water main abandonment work at 33rd Street is completed, traffic on O Street will be shifted to the outside lanes to allow the median reconstruction to be completed between 32nd Street and 37th Street. Completion of the water main work is anticipated by June 30th.

PART OF EAST "O" TO CLOSE OVERNIGHT NEXT WEEK -- East "O" Street from 33rd to 44th streets will close to traffic overnight next week for street maintenance. The closures will be from 12:01 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, April 25 through Friday, April 28. Motorists should use alternate routes.4/12/06
48th Street Update: We anticipate that on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, traffic will move to the west lanes of 48th Street, between M and R Streets. Traffic will remain open to north and south-bound traffic, with a center turn lane.Accessing Businesses (April 19 - early September)

O Street from 44th to 52nd will be closed on March 6, 2006, at 8:30 a.m. for the construction of the 48th & O Street widening project. Detoured traffic going east-bound will be directed to R Street at 44th Street, and then return to O Street at 52nd Street and vice versa for west-bound traffic. This closure will be in effect until approximately August 31, 2006.Two-way traffic will be maintained on the north lanes of O Street from 32nd to 44th Streets to facilitate the construction of a new water main. This work will also require short-term closures on 33rd Street and at 40th Street to complete portions of this work.
The outside southbound lane on 48th Street from O to R Streets will be closed on March 6th for approximately three to four weeks in order to build a temporary traffic lane. The remainder of 48th Street will be open to traffic.
While the changes will start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, the changeover in traffic will take most of the morning. Drivers need to remain patient and stay alert.

Depending on weather, O Street will close between 45th and 52nd Street on March 6, 2006, as construction on this segment of the roadway begins. Traffic will be detoured to take 44th Street, R Street, and 52nd Street.Starting tomorrow at 9 a.m., lanes will be closed to remove existing raised medians. These lane closures are on 48th Street from O to M Streets and on R Street from 46th to 48th Streets. At least one lane of traffic will be open in each direction at all times.
For the redevelopment project on the south side of O Street: Crews began razing the old Misle building yesterday. This demolition will make way for new businesses, including Runza, Braeda Fresh Express Cafe, Walgreens, and a West Gate Bank. Construction of this project is anticipated to occur during construction of the roadway, with businesses potentially opening in early 2007.

Lane closures will begin Monday, February 6th on O Street from 32nd to 45th Streets to remove raised medians near the intersections and prepare the area for replacing water lines. This preliminary work is scheduled in preparation for the O Street widening and water main project that is scheduled to begin in March.Beginning March 1st, O Street from 44th to 52nd Streets is tentatively scheduled to close for reconstruction. It is anticipated that O Street will reopen to traffic by September 2006. During construction, traffic will be detoured to R Street on 44th and 52nd Streets.

Alltel is relocating telephone facilities on the east side of Target before the project begins in order to help speed up overall construction. This work is in the right-of-way on the west side of 48th Street between O and R Streets. The sidewalk and one of Target's driveways are closed. At times, the right southbound lane will be closed to traffic.We anticipate this to be complete by the start of the roadway work, depending upon weather.
